Angled exterior façade view of Hospital de Sant Pau

If interiors are intimate, façades are public speeches.

What the exterior is saying

"This is a civic institution."
"Health deserves beauty."
"Craft belongs to everyday life."

Façade anatomy

Layer	Function
Structural brick	Mass and rhythm
Ceramic inserts	Weatherproof color + symbolism
Relief/sculpture	Narrative anchors
Roofline accents	Skyline identity

A practical way to look

Step back until the whole façade fits your view.
Move to mid-distance and find repeating modules.
Go close for texture, glaze, and hand-made irregularities.

The handmade mark is the fingerprint of Modernisme.

Endnote

Sant Pau's façades are not decorative wrappers; they are civic texts written in brick and glaze.
